🌿 Gaik is an old Slavic welcome to Spring 🌸

Come along to a unique event inspired by the old Slavic custom of “walking with a gaik”! This is a joyful ritual in which we celebrate the arrival of spring, the rebirth of nature and the time of a new beginning.

⏰ Time: 12:30pm

During the event, there will be a colourful parade with a gaik – a green branch symbolising life and rebirth. We will walk in a colorful procession, singing traditional songs, and we will also learn more about the ancient beliefs of our ancestors.

The event will be led by Zosia Bernad who specialises in Polish traditions. We will learn three gaik songs, which we will later sing in a gaik procession. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age and musical experience.

Please only sign up if you are really intending to come. Bring over your picnic blanket; Protected content is in a pretty park in the heart of Żoliborz, they serve food and drink and there’s lots of space to lounge around 🌿✨

If ever since you first heard Haddaway’s “What is love” the question has never gotten off your mind, the night of February 8th might just be the one when you will get a chance to ask Haddaway directly what on Earth is love indeed. 😅

Put any sense of shame or cringe away for one night only and embrace the blast from the past. Performing LIVE (or just slightly supported by the magic of the good old playback), will be the all the stars you know from the cover pages of youth magazines from the 90s:

These are no tribute acts, these are genuine stars of the 90s coming out from their dusty shells to lure you to the huge dance floor of Warsaw’s Torwar Arena. Hours of fun guaranteed! You can definitely dress in your finest 90s attire and if you need certain magic potions to loosen up the joints and bones that haven’t done this much disco since the 90s, there will be alco and food stalls at the venue. 🪩💃🏼🕺🏻

Prices for admission vary greatly and depend on how close you want to be to the stage. I’m getting mine in the standing area.

P.S. Fun fact: last time, in Protected content , I ended up becoming a very unskilled yet very enthusiastic backing dancer for the legendary band Aqua who gave us “Barbie”. Not posting the pic to prove it here, but if you come and join me at this amazing Millenial nostalgia fiesta, I’ll sure share the story and the photo. 😅

A huge presentation of Greek food and drink is coming to Warsaw in January. I’ll post more details as soon as the organiser has shared them, for now please pencil the date into your calendars.
