Local Economy

The Wiesbaden-Mainz area is one of the richest areas in Germany. Jobs are plentiful, due in part to the amount of large international companies with bases in the two cities. These range from large computing companies, to chemical firms, as well as engineering and even cruise ship operators.

Important products within the industries of Wiesbaden include concrete, metals, electronics, printing, and foodstuffs. Produce of Mainz includes glass and plastics. Both cities are also major wine centers, and highly important to German wine production and trade. As it can be seen, the area contains a plethora of industry and trade, all of which are open to expats. It should also be remembered that, like Germany as a whole, the English language can get you almost as far as the native tongue; another factor that broadens horizons for those hoping to work in Wiesbaden or Mainz.

Wiesbaden also has a large military contingent, with many thousands of US citizens employed in the area. This military presence also creates civilian jobs.
