Job Hunting in Tehran
Signing up to a labor bureau, such as Iran Talent, is an excellent way of discovering what is currently available in Tehran. If you see something you’d like to apply for, you simply need to register with the site. Uploading your CV is easy, and you have the option of being searched for by employers.
There are also bureaus that focus on a particular industry, such as the Engineering Job, which is aimed at engineers. In addition to finding a job in Tehran, you also have the option of narrowing your search to a particular area of the city.
Income Taxation in Tehran
Foreign nationals working in Tehran are subject to income taxation, and are unable to get an exit visa and leave the country unless they can prove that they have paid their taxes. Salary and benefits are subject to taxation although there are some exemptions and deductions.
The Iranian financial year begins on 21 March and finishes on 20 March of the following year. The government makes an assumption on what an individual earns depending upon what his or her country of origin is and the position they hold. For example, this ranges from 2,500 USD per month for an unskilled European worker to 7,000 USD per month for a European managing director. The tax rate is 35%.
Work Permits for Tehran
It is necessary for foreign nationals to obtain a work permit before being allowed to be employed in Tehran or elsewhere in Iran. United Nation employees, aid workers, diplomats, and foreign press reporters are exempted from this though.
Before a work permit is granted, there are a number of conditions that must be met. Iranian nationals must not have enough expertise for the position, the foreign applicant must be qualified for the job, and their expertise must be used to train an Iranian national with a view to the Iranian replacing the foreign national.
A work permit is granted for a maximum of one year and needs to be reapplied for if the foreign national wants to remain in Tehran.
