Embracing Your New Life in Tanzania
As the home to some of Africa’s most iconic tourist destinations, such as the Serengeti National Park, Lake Victoria and the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, you’ll want to make plenty of time for exploring Tanzania’s beauty and wildlife. Head to Zanzibar to find Stone Town and cultural sights like the Old Fort, Peace Memorial Museum, and the Hamamni baths. Most expats will head to Dar es Salaam, the country’s capital for housing and career opportunities in the high income suburbs and financial services sector. Tanzania’s main industries are in the primary sector, manufacturing, energy, telecommunications and IT, with potential for future investment and growth in mining, tourism, and natural resources. Swahili and English are the country’s two official languages, but English is primarily used in business. Tanzania’s cuisine features flavorful meat dishes served with rice, bread, and a variety of vegetables. Coconut is widely used in both sweet and savory dishes and snacks such as kebabs and samosas may be familiar to foreigners. A whole host of festivals are held in the country, with most taking place in Zanzibar and Dar es Saleem. For the more active among you, try your hand at the Kiliman adventure challenge; a grueling event of hiking, mountain biking, and the Kilimanjaro marathon. Find music, dance, and acrobatics at the Bagamoyo Arts Festival and patriotic parades during Unification Day, celebrated throughout Tanzania.
