With a tropical climate, it comprises several districts, with the older part of the city at the end of the peninsula, the market district of Waterside as well as a large, natural harbor, the Freeport of Monrovia, to the north. The economy revolves around the port and there is also an airport, Spriggs Payne Airport, around four miles from the city center.
