An Event Medley in March

From the luck of the Irish to the holy month of Ramadan, let’s dive into the highlights of March. And get ready for light-hearted fun with April Fools’ Day and other exciting events ahead!

Celebrating International Women’s Day

Every year, 8 March is an occasion to remember women’s fight for equality, highlight gender equality, and celebrate female achievements. It’s no surprise that International Women’s Day is a theme commonly picked up by our communities.

The Dublin Changemakers Group, for example, joined a free guided art tour at the National Gallery. The focus? Exploring how women are represented in a selection of works at the gallery.

For their official event in March, members in Cologne (pictured above) visited a venue that proved popular in the past: the iconic Iron Cocktail Lounge. And in honor of Women’s Day, female attendees were in for a little surprise.

Speaking of nice surprises: at the Houston International Women’s Day Party, each woman received a lovely rose from the organizers. Plus, a professional photographer made sure to capture the attendees — who’d dressed to impress! — from their best side.

(Hoping for) The Luck of the Irish

Another staple of March? St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th!

The Buenos Aires Bar and Cocktails Group had an early start celebrating Saint Patrick’s. On 15 March, they came together for an unforgettable night of Irish music with Na Fianna.

In Mexico City, the Culture & History Group had a similar idea. They attended the local St. Patrick’s parade followed by the Irish cultural event with Irish dance, Celtic music, and lots of fun.

The San Diego Coffee & Connect Group embraced the color green at their St. Patrick’s Day Pistachio Twist activity. The delicious(ly green) pistachio-infused Baklava were a real treat in combination with the cozy comfort of coffee or tea!

Breaking the Fast Together

This year, Ramadan coincides with the month of March, starting on the 1st and expected to end on the 30th. An important occasion for many people across the globe, the holy month has also played a role in this month’s events.

Whether Muslim or not, many members met to experience the tradition of breaking their fast together. In Doha, for example, the Party Nights & Jazz Group organized an outdoor Iftar Buffet Series.

And the Dubai Travelers Group didn’t mind a late gathering for their first Suhoor trip — the event took place from 9 at night until 3 in the morning!

Some communities even combined different occasions, such as in Istanbul. The İftar & Women’s Day Networking Dinner on 8 March offered everyone the chance to network with like-minded people and try out the restaurant’s exciting blend of traditional flavors with modern touches.

Upcoming Events

With March drawing to a close, we’ll soon be saying farewell to Ramadan. If you’re in Cairo on 28 March, you can join the Explorers Group for a Ramadan Afternoon before the big Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Consul Andrew promised a special spot in the city for his activity.

You can’t get enough of the Irish? Then check your calendar — in some communities, there are still St. Patrick’s events happening. Or as the Nuremberg Beer Culture & Tradition Group calls it, a P-SPD. Their Post St. Patrick’s Day invites everyone to an Irish pub on 23 March.

The Global Social Café Group has an interesting format coming up, too: SpeedMeeting Fridays, with the next session scheduled for Friday, 28 March. The idea is simple: you join the Zoom meeting to mix and mingle with fellow members in free-moving, random breakout rooms.

If you’re already looking forward to some mischief on April Fools’ Day, then the São Paulo Official Event on 6 April might be for you! Embrace the playful spirit, share two truths and a lie, and be prepared for lots of laughter.

Whatever you do, we hope you have fun!
