Starting a New Life in Luxembourg

With foreign nationalities making up 44% of the population, three international borders (France, Germany and Belgium), and over 1,000 years of history, Luxembourg is certainly an international as well as popular destination. Expats usually head to Luxembourg City, the urban center of the country, for job opportunities in technology and financial services; two major sources of employment. Despite a recent increase in the small levels of unemployment, skilled tradesmen and those with qualifications or a full CV of experience will likely find good job opportunities, as well as enjoy special tax exemptions for expats. You'll discover that a diverse selection of international foods is available, including French, Italian, Sushi, Indian and Thai. Pretty French patisseries tempt passers-by while traditional fare includes meats marinated or in white and red wine sauces served with potatoes and vegetables. Cheese, pies, tarts and stews are also popular. Although you'll be settling into Luxembourg life as a resident, make sure to visit some of Luxembourg's most romantic sights such as the "valley of the seven castles", the vineyards of the Moselle valley, and the stunning lakes and forests in the surrounding countryside.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. InterNations members helped me and my family to find a house that is not too expensive -- no small feat for an expat in Luxembourg.
