Eddie and Jocelyne Stern studied under Ashtanga Yoga master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois for seventeen years. Their school, Ashtanga Yoga New York, is the NYC branch of Jois's institute in India. It also functions as Manhattan's only Vedically established Ganesh temple, which was consecrated by Pattabhi Jois in Protected content . Over the past years Eddie has published four books on Pattabhi Jois and Ashtanga Yoga, and is as well the co-publisher and editor of a monthly Indian philosophical journal entitled Namarupa, Categories of Indian Thought. He serves on the board of directors of Bent On Learning, a not-for-profit that teaches yoga and meditation to disadvantaged public school children, and Jocelyne teaches meditation to a homeless group in NYC.

TALK DESCRIPTION:
The three talks that will accompany the yoga classes will address the concept of tristhana, the three places of action that constitute yoga practice: the asana (posture), the breath, and the dristhi (point of gazing). Each talk will focus on one aspect of tristhana, and how they also relate to the triad of practice, self-study and surrender that Patanjali discusses in the Yoga Sutras. Jocelyne will lead simple meditations based on the Buddha's practice of metta, and its correlation to kindness and compassion in Patanjali's sutras.
