Where the White Nile and the Blue Nile Meet

Khartoum is the capital city of Sudan. Temperatures in the city can reach up to 47°C during the summer months (March to July) so it's vital that you acclimatize quickly! Khartoum is home to Sudan's most prestigious schools and universities. On the White Nile Bridge, you can see where the White Nile and the Blue Nile converge, while the cuisine in Khartoum is a mix of international and Middle Eastern, although restaurants are few and far between, and the local sports scene revolves mainly around the water. Khartoum has a thriving cultural scene — surprising perhaps as alcohol is outlawed and there are no clubs in the city. However, there are music venues, covering anything from jazz, house and afro-reggae to flamenco dancing and even poetry slams.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities around the world. Meet fellow global minds in your city of residence or get to know local expatriates before you're moving or traveling abroad and never feel like a stranger. InterNations makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your expat friends, both online and offline, so you can grow your network of friends and contacts from all over the world. Whether they live in Madrid or Tokyo, InterNations allows you to be close to them even if they are miles away.

Start Building Your Network of Expats in Khartoum

Contrary to expectations, most expats have found Khartoum to be a friendly and open place. Experiencing culture shock is a normal part of moving away from home, but InterNations can help put you in contact with other expats in the city to help ease your transition. Along with the online forums, we also hold community-wide social events, where you can meet internaional people from around the world. By joining one or more of our groups, you can take part in activities ranging from food and wine tasting to sports events to days out with the kids. Our groups are organized and hosted by expats in your community, and offer a wide variety of activities from walking and hiking groups to business and family groups. Khartoum operates under Sharia law, so your fellow expats can advise you on how not to fall foul of the authorities. You may even find yourself changing jobs once you reach the city, because of the new friendships you make. The InterNations resources at your disposal really can make one of the biggest changes in your life much more enjoyable and stress-free, so make sure you make the most of what is on offer!
