Ready to Join?

Dear art lover,

we invite you to join us for a special event at the Dommuseum Mainz. After the opening hours of the museum, we are going to open exclusively for you for two special exhibitions. There will be two guided tours in English, with two different topics.

1. Topic: Medieval Choir Books
"The Whole World on Parchment: The Choir Books from the Mainz Carmelite Monastery. What do dragons have to do with singing monks?

A lot! Because in the nearly Protected content choir books from the Carmelite Monastery, it bristles with dragons! They squeeze into letters, lurk at the edges of pages, and inhabit the books alongside countless other animals, monsters, and humans.

2. Topic: Scarred by Bomb Warfare. Forgotten Fragments Tell History.

Wars are once again omnipresent today. The destruction of Mainz on 27 February Protected content what consequences they have. On the afternoon of this day, 80 percent of the city was destroyed and around Protected content lost their lives in the ensuing firestorm. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of this dreadful day, the Cathedral Museum has reviewed its depots and rediscovered numerous, now fragmented artworks that once adorned the city: fallen house Madonnas, demolished coat of arms stones, or melted goldsmith works.

We will offer both topics in 1 hour tour.

Looking forward to seeing you.
