Dear Art & Book History Lover,

the Mainz Carmelite Choir Books are very impressive. The special exhibition "The Whole World on Parchment" shows them for a short periode of time.

If you leaf through the magnificent manuscripts, you will come across suspiciously accurate cut-out holes here and there. Let´s meet on this very special day at the Mainz Dommuseum and meet two experts who will shed light on the whereabouts of missing puzzle pieces and give you an insight into how manuscripts from the 15th century are restored.

Dr. Cornelia Schneider will take you along on her detective work. Restorer Johannes Schrempf - who restored the Carmelite choir books - will show you how to professionally treat and restore wear and moisture damage, ink erosion, flaws, breaks and tears in parchment, paper and book covers. Thanks to the work of these two experts, we are able to show you a precious Bible manuscript with gold-patterned initials and the full splendor of the Carmelite choir books. There will be short presentations every hour on the theme day.

Short tours in German language are planned for this day:

12.30 with Johannes Schrempf (German)
