Walk in the Vineyard
The Rangen vineyard covers an area of 18.5 hectares and is the only vineyard in Alsace classified as a Grand Cru in its entirety.
Reaching an altitude of Protected content with a slope of 45%, it is the only Grand Cru in Alsace on volcanic soil.
Its sunshine, frequent rainfall, and the presence of the Thur river at its base give it its unique characteristics.
In the past, the Rangen vineyard was patrolled by the Bangards (vineyard guards), whose mission was to watch over the precious vineyard, the source of Thann’s prosperity.
In this way, you will follow one of these Bangards to discover the "richness" of Thann and its vineyard.
At each stage of your journey, you will find an explanatory panel on a specific theme, with quotes from former Bangards recounting anecdotes from the year.
The vineyard should exhibit fall colors and if the sun is there, the landscape would be fantastic.
The route is 5 km long with a Protected content elevation gain. Good shoes are required.
We will then be able to visit the town of Thann and share a drink together.
The meeting point is at Thann train station, directly accessible from Mulhouse. If you are driving, consider carpooling.
