Let’s Go to the Cinema: Riefenstahl
Dear friends,
This documentary recounts the life and work of one of most famous, and yet reviled, German film directors in history, Leni Riefenstahl.
Using new material from Leni Riefenstahl's archives and estate, Andreas Veiel examines the complex relationship between the filmmaker and director of Nazi propaganda, celebrated for her aesthetics, and the Hitler regime. The film oscillates between her glorified portrayal and incriminating evidence of her knowledge of the regime's atrocities. After the end of the war, Riefenstahl herself consistently denied ever having sympathized with the Nazis' inhuman ideology. But after her death in Protected content , her estate finally revealed a more nuanced picture of Riefenstahl.
