**About the Movie:**

On April 7, Protected content , Toussaint Louverture, a former slave that organized the revolt against the colonists, died in a dungeon in France. Less than a year later, Haiti gained independence. This film retraces the exceptional life of a man who called himself “le premier des Noirs,” Haiti’s tragic history, and the little-known history of slavery in France.
