Villanos Del Jazz: Sun Ra Arkestra
There are formations that survive the genius of their alma mater. Sun Ra was a unique, visionary talent who managed to project jazz into outer space thanks to his exploration of science fiction, sidereal travel, the cultural legacy of ancient Egypt and the philosophical theories of the cabala. His influence went far beyond jazz: Afrikaa Bambaataa, Primal Scream and Solange can attest to this. He led the Sun Ra Arkestra from Protected content his death in Protected content , but it has remained active, guided today by the veteran saxophonist Marshall Allen (almost Protected content old, a member since Protected content , from its headquarters in a row house in the Germantown neighbourhood of Philadelphia. A large collective that, like its founder and mentor, and thanks to its hallucinatory mix of jazz, swing, psychedelia and improvisation, is capable of convincing you that it comes straight from Saturn.
