A Greek-Turkish couple, Sofia and Fatih, two young people who met and fell in love as students in a neutral Western country, establish a business, a baklava shop, in the historic town of Messolonghi.
But when they are confronted with the traditional hostility between the two countries, they decide to declare their business an independent state.
A romantic venture, doomed from the start to fail.
A team of "researchers" is called upon to reconstruct on stage the history of this tiny nation, its birth, conflicts, and legacy.
Through a series of fictional, surreal, and comic situations, two young people try to free themselves from the weight of age-old stereotypes of hostility and invent for themselves a new identity.
The Republic of Baklava is an unexpectedly hilarious theatrical pseudo-documentary that, although drawing inspiration from the historical events of Protected content , is set in our modern, digitally interconnected, world, exploring issues of identity and political organization through the filter of today.
