Norwegian director and playwright Rolf Alme, known for his ability to "rewrite" the myths and stories of antiquity, uses "Caligula 2.0" to comment on and shed light on the current state of the world.
"Caligula 2.0" narrates the story of a society built on fear and surveillance, moving between a past and present where the totalitarian regime of the emperor slowly disintegrates due to endless wars and international sanctions. In this play, the historical figure of Caligula and ancient Rome provide the backdrop for exploring Russia under Putin's reign and his war, with its endless suffering and long-term geopolitical consequences.
