"Invitation to Delight" Philipp Gufler. Opening Exhibition
Working on the queer history of Germany and the Netherlands, Philipp Gufler (DE, Protected content been creating works in the form of mirrors covered with pigment for years.
Rectangular, square and triangular forms seemingly look like exemplary, modernist painting in the spirit of Frank Stella. Regular, geometric divisions into colored fields exude peace and seriousness. Sometimes only color, or rather the material from which the pigment was obtained, queer our thoughts, turning from the world of pure abstraction towards a narrative based on real events.
Gufler’s interesting works are precisely in the context of explicit works presenting queer themes. They throw open the door to an increasingly crowded room labeled “Queer Art.”
