Ece Clarke, Niyazi Toptoprak and Kandinsky's Spiritual Legacy in Contemporary Art
The exhibition of the two Turkish artists resonates with the spiritual approach to art theorized by Wassily Kandinsky in the early 20th century. After the publication of the foundational work "Concerning the Spiritual in Art," it is fascinating to explore how these contemporary artists continue, consciously or not, this search for transcendence through artistic expression.
When Kandinsky published "Concerning the Spiritual in Art" in Protected content Protected content , he established the theoretical foundations for a new artistic approach that moved away from figurative imitation of nature to access a deeper spiritual dimension. His treatise, translated into French only in Protected content , proposes that "beautiful is what proceeds from an inner necessity of the soul" and that "art is the language of the soul and it is the only one". This revolutionary vision considers art not as a simple aesthetic pleasure but as a means of transforming humans and the world.
This visual conversation of these artists seem to continue this exploration of inner necessity, the search for what precisely "eludes" our immediate perception but resonates deeply with our soul.
