Aziza Brahim's life story has both harsh trials and inspiring successes. She grew up in a refugee camp for Saharawis, nomadic people from Western Sahara, on the border of Morocco and Algeria. To escape oppression, she moved to Cuba as a teenager to study. Today she lives and works as an artist in Barcelona.
Her music is an expression of both the sadness and the hope of the Saharawis, a reflection of the many people stuck in the camps in the desert but also of those who managed to build a life elsewhere:.Regardless, she writes every song to the heartbeat of the Saharawis.
