Wisdom of Happiness is like a 90-minute meditation journey. It is centred on the Dalai Lama, speaking directly to the audience, as though he was looking directly into the viewers eyes. He tells us to breathe deeply and slow down – for that is the only way to inner peace.
The Dalai Lama, born Tenzin Gyatso, is the 89-year-old Buddhist spiritual leader of Tibet and the head of Tibet’s government in exile. He was recognised as the Dalai Lama’s fourteenth (or thirteenth, depending on method of calculation) incarnation at the age of four. He received the Nobel peace prize in Protected content his non-violent struggle for Tibet’s freedom.
Wisdom of Happiness is centred on the narration of the Dalai Lama, guiding the viewer with the support of rich archival and illustrative footage. The film has an intimate atmosphere, and at times the viewer can feel as though they are sharing the space with the Dalai Lama.
Wisdom of Happiness is a moment of tranquil repose with a smattering of hopefulness. It is a film with some biographical elements, flavoured with beautiful illustrative imagery and containing previously unseen archival footage of the Dalai Lama’s childhood and youth.
