Dear Friends,

Let’s join in to another cultural event…

Teatro Romano is an on-site museum, dedicated to showcasing one of the most emblematic monuments of the ancient Roman city of Felicitas Iulia Olisipo: its Roman Theatre. The visible structures of the theatre date back to the 1st century AD.

Visitors can explore the archaeological site, which includes the foundation of the proscaenium (the supporting wall of the scenic façade) and the orchestra area, originally reserved for the city’s elite. The museum’s long-term exhibition is housed in two buildings from different periods: a 17th-century building that once belonged to the Lisbon Cathedral’s Chapter House and a late 19th-century building. Both structures have been restored and adapted for museum use, with the museum initially opening in Protected content .

The museum’s collection features archaeological finds from various interventions, highlighting sculptural and architectural elements, as well as a vast array of ceramics from different historical periods. The exhibits cover a broad historical timeline, from the 4th century BCE to the 17th century CE, providing insight into the site’s evolution over time.

I see you there 😊.
