Elias, a young musician, begins to be haunted by a "shadow" after his grandmother's death. But what is it? And what does it want from him?
She follows him everywhere, in the surreal atmospheres of the discos where he plays, in the medieval alleys of Ferrara, up to the family home, which holds ancient memories. And it is right there, in those dusty rooms where Elias decides to rediscover his Jewish roots, that the shadow seems to join other shadows and the past begins to take shape.
In a narrative with an articulated structure, with frequent time jumps and flashbacks, the vicissitudes of Elias intertwine with those of the Finks and the Bassanis - from the arrival in Italy of his great-grandparents to the tragedy of the Second World War, with the deportation to Auschwitz - creating an intimate and engaging story, a world made of memories, emotions and reflections in which the often painful awareness of what happened alternates with comedic tones and self-irony.
Between the great tragedies of History and small scenes of comedy, between demons dancing on the cube and an elderly poet surrounded by cats, between synagogues, bombs and a late circumcision, "Patrilinear.
