Limonov: the Ballad
Language: English
Limonov: the ballad is a visionary work by the Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov on the overwhelming and complex life of Eduard Limonov, the radical Soviet poet who became a bum in New York, a sensation in France, and a political antihero in Russia.
Limonov has been described in many ways: revolutionary militant, criminal, underground writer, lover of beautiful women, political activist, warmonger. It was all these people, but also a poet and novelist: the story of his life is a journey between Russia, America and Europe in the second half of the 20th century.
The film, presented in competition for the Palma d'Oro at the Cannes Film Festival is an adaptation of Limonov ( Protected content ), the fictionalized biography of the poet by the French writer Emmanuel Carrère. The film is therefore not a true biopic, but a fictionalized version of Limonov's life, looked at from a Western point of view. The work - which is a co-production between Italy, France and Spain - has been defined as hyperkinetic, desperate, vulgar, passionate, contradictory, capable at times of a perverse charm like that of the character it narrates.
We will meet in front of the entrance of the cinema La Compagnia at 18:15.
