Book Club Number 3

For our 3rd encounter, lets read and discuss the book Embers, by Sandor Marai, a classic of modern European literature.
(As there is less time to prepare, and this book has received positive votes at the previous sessions, I thought that we could go straight ahead with this choice.)

This novel was originally published in Protected content , and rediscovered in more recent years. The narrative revolves around an elderly general who invites an old friend from military school for dinner; the friend had disappeared mysteriously for forty-one years, and the dinner begins to resemble a trial where the friend is prosecuted for his character traits. They will exhume the memory of their friendship and that of the General’s beautiful, long-dead wife.

Again, we will meet at hôtel Rohan, and if we are lucky with the weather we can enjoy a nice drink on the terrace (they make a very nice cafe frappe ;))
